First, get safely out of traffic, on flat solid ground where other drivers can see you. Don’t continue driving - your steering is compromised, and you risk damaging expensive components, including the rim.
Once you’re out of the way, decide whether to call a tow truck or swap out the tire for a spare yourself. If you choose the latter, consult your manual or any labels that may be in or on the vehicle concerning installing a spare. Remember not to put any part of your body under the car or fender well while it’s supported by the jack.
Using the factory recommended jack point, place the jack under the vehicle. Break the lug nuts free first, then lift the car carefully, making sure the jack stays level and sturdy. Once you’re sure the vehicle is secure, remove the lug nuts, pull the wheel off, and install the spare in reverse order. Make sure you tighten the lug nuts in a cross pattern, and you’re ready to go! Get the tire replaced and your original tire reinstalled as soon as possible.
